Pull Ups and Chin Ups: What's The Difference and Comparison

One bodyweight sport that is quite popular in all sports is pull up. In pull-ups, the term chin up is also known. Basically the pull up and chin up movements are almost the same, but of course they are different. What's the difference between pull up and chin up?

PULL UP

Pull up is a lifting motion of the body with the position of the palm facing the front of the bar / handle. The main target of muscle pull ups is SHOULDER MUSCLE (shoulder / deltoids). In addition to the pull-up shoulder muscles, it also trains many types of muscles such as your back muscles and all your arm muscles. For more details, consider the following picture.

CHIN UP

Chin up is a lifting motion of the body with the palm facing backward or opposite to the bar.

The main target when you do chin up is BICEP MUSCLE. Although chin up also exercises the muscles of the back, arms and shoulders as well as pull ups, chin up has a target in the bicep muscles because of the movement of the position of the palm opposite the bar. The Difference Between PULL UP and CHIN UP

From these two explanations, you can see clearly the basic differences between pull ups and chin ups. The pull up and chin up movement are actually the same as the only difference is the position of the palm. The target muscles are almost similar, only chin up is more focused on training the bicep muscles.

Pulling up is a little heavier than the chin up movement. Usually for beginners I advise you to start chin up training if you are not strong enough to do pull up exercises. Read also: How to Do Pull Up Workout At Home.
